I have dedicated a week earlier to product strategy. Unfortunately, despite bringing out the most advanced google search skills I had, I could not find relevant examples for how to put it in practice (except for my favorite company which are favorites for a reason). That all changes today, well not all, but definitely more than some.
Now I did say in my strategy week that as IC PMs, while you may not be owning strategy always, it is nevertheless a good exercise to be informed about it and know how your efforts help achieve the company vision. Good strategy is quite invisible, and bad strategy can be tracked with low sleep alerts on your fitness tracker.
Today’s post is written from a CPO’s perspective (and one of the best CPOs’ perspective), but as an IC PM, I found it an incredibly useful piece that I can find immediate actionables from. It also talks about how not having a relevant strategy impacts the org (and your sleep) and how focus can help each person in the org achieve their goals. It is a great practical read and details steps and decision making criteria in eliminating certain bets and focusing on others.
