The great thing I love about the internet is how it has reduced access to some of the best leaders and thinkers of our generation. These leaders have been gracious enough to share their learnings and spend time to make people better at their job. You may be wondering why I have suddenly become philosophical and stating obvious things about internet - especially since literally I share other people’s posts in this newsletter. Well, it may be because of the heavy lunch that I just had. Though another reason is the article(s) I am sharing today.
Netflix has been the pioneer of entertainment and forefront of innovation. They embody a lot of what we have talked about in this newsletter. They have constantly reinvented and succeeded in capturing delight both of customers and Wallstreet (latter obviously more important). I really admire Netflix product (and their originals). So when the chief product officer of Netflix came along and described in detail on how they strategised, planned, decided metrics for their product- I just knew that it would make it to my yet to be launched newsletter someday.
Like Rahul Vohra’s Superhuman article, this series of articles by Gibson Biddle captures the essence of what we have talked about in this newsletter. It gives great frameworks on how to start thinking about strategy (it also has a deck which you can refer to, you don’t have to fill it but it is a great structure nevertheless). There are new abbreviations introduced in this, but if you break it down, it basically talks about similar things as previous articles. I created my own framework basis this week’s articles (again, doesnt necessarily mean I use it regularly), and I urge you to do the same. It clarifies your thoughts and provides a structure for future content intake.
This series has 12 parts - each takes about a minute or two to read. Since it is the weekend, you can read it in parts. I especially urge you to read the proxy metrics and SMT section. It is a really good example of how strategy translates to actionable roadmap. Hope you enjoy it!
