In my first role as a PM, two questions that people earning more than me constantly asked when making a decision were:
What is the right customer answer?
What is the right business answer?
In a perfect world, both answers should be the same, but as Game of thrones series finale showed us, a perfect world hardly exists. Sometimes doing right for business means hurting a few customers, and vice versa. There is no perfect framework to it and it depends a lot on the stage of business and maturity of customers. Like all things, there are very few things frameworks cannot solve (or can solve depending on who you ask).
I came across today’s post sometime back, and it reminded me of the questions we debated upon in my earlier job. Usually the debate goes nowhere and it finally ends when people exhaust their mental faculties. I wish I had this article during that time to bring those debates to conclusion faster.
Today’s article covers this topic in quite a bit of detail with examples from some great companies. It is a good reckoner which can be referred from time to time. Hope you like it.
